Shane Parker-Kast
Shane is a Santa Fe and Los Angeles based artist. He is a graduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCA) where he obtained a B(FA) in glass. During his time at the CCA he studied abroad at the Burren College of Art in Ireland for 10 months and took a 3 month long portraiture class with painting master Yuqi Wang.
Shane's background in fly-fishing (his family owns and operates Land of Enchantment Guides based out of Santa Fe) has led him to greatly value craftsmanship as well as concept. He works in bronze and glass as well as painting. Not wanting to be limited to one medium, Shane allows the concept to dictate the creation and the form.
Shane is currently working on a series which explores the relationship between technology and nature. He uses the motif of drones to represent the removal of the human in the advancement of technology and the lack of foresight in how this will affect the inter-connectedness of our world. He is concerned with the Pandora's Box effect of how one (technology) may irreparably influence the other (nature).
